Ellen’s academic background in geology and geochemistry launched her into a diverse career trajectory.  Early in her career, she was a laboratory assistant in a research group studying lunar samples and meteorites, a minerals exploration geologist in the western US, and an environmental consultant investigating groundwater contamination in New Jersey and elsewhere in the Northeast.  For the last 25 years of her career, she was an energy consultant with Levitan & Associates, Inc. serving as Vice President and Principal.  She provided analytical support to state energy agencies charged with implementing policies to decarbonize the electric grid.  She also advised clients on competitive procurement options for wholesale power supply, including high-voltage, direct current transmission projects, natural gas-fired plants, and renewable generation projects, including offshore wind.  She has served as an expert witness in environmental litigation cases and has testified before state energy regulatory commissions regarding the costs and environmental benefits of long-term contracts for renewable energy.
